ENCPC Poverty Information Project
Margaret Dixon, ENCPC Chairperson
In 2001, the Eastern NC Poverty Committee made a commitment to refocus its efforts and reestablish itself as a vital resource for Eastern North Carolina. Our greatest contribution to Eastern North Carolina has been the development of this very website. Leslie Hossfeld, a sociologist at UNCW, and Chip Hossfeld, professional web designer, have worked closely with the ENCPC board to produce this comprehensive website. The ENCPC has always done research and published information about poverty and conditions in eastern North Carolina, and is very committed to maintaining this website and providing updated information on a continuous basis.
The ENCPC Poverty Information Project provides Downloadable PowerPoint presentations on issues pertaining to poverty in Eastern North Carolina. As of Fall 2009 there are twelve presentations available, ten with an accompanying narrative essay focusing on various regions in eastern North Carolina. In addition, there are two research briefs focusing on poverty in Eastern Carolina. The focus of these reports range from an examination of the changes in poverty in Eastern North Carolina since 1980; job displacement in Robeson County; select county comparisons focusing on poverty and wealth variables; and changes in African American quality of life in Wilmington, North Carolina from 1970-2000. The mission of ENCPC Poverty Research Project is to continuously update our site with current data and new links to sites pertaining to poverty, and to provide essays and research PowerPoint presentations that are accessible for use in community-based research projects.
